Arizona is like a different country. Or planet. The cacti look like trees from a sci-fi movie spectacular. Every time I walked by a prickly friend, I fantasized about what it would look like stripped of quills and grilled for a taco.MASECA® EN LA COCINA CON LAS ESTRELLAS RECIPE CONTEST
The Rules: Create an original recipe that uses Maseca products and NO products that are competitive with Maseca. Recipes must be submitted with 3 product receipts.
Judging Criteria: originality – 50%, perceived ease of preparation – 30% and creative use of MASECA® ingredient(s)– 20%. In the event of a tie, tiebreaker will be based on the highest score for “Originality.”
The Prize: (1) First Prize - $10,000; (1) Second Prize - $5,000; (1) Third Prize - $2,500; all cash prizes will be awarded in the form of a check. Three (3) Finalist Prizes – A 4-day/3-night trip for two to Miami to compete in the Finalist live cook-off competition in December 2008.
The Entry: Edible cactus removed of prickles, peeled, painted with olive oil and grilled. Served in a taco with roasted rainbow peppers and grilled cumin corn. Stuffed with queso fresco and black bean salsa. Okay, confession: I’m not really entering this contest. You have to buy 3 Maseca products and I just don’t know what I’d do with that much corn flour. Besides, would a plain taco really win? Uh uh.
