I was not my social best tonight. It was a post Passover pizza party for work, and I found myself in conversation with a woman who I’ve spoken to a couple times before. Not wanting to parrot previously covered banter, I was cautious about introducing topics. But because I have an unfortunate memory, especially when I’m nervous, I couldn’t remember a thing about her except that she was born and raised in Chicago. So I formed a question, which in the moment felt timeless and unique, about how she feels living in her hometown as an adult versus as a teen. And she says, "well, I think we’ve spoken about this before, but…" and I’m like, oh my god. I’m like a short circuiting robot. I’m so programmed that I don’t even recognize that I’m recreating the exact same question that I’ve created before. I just do it. Funny, because I remember thinking before I spoke, gee, this is a good open ended question! No chance I’ve gone this route before!
Much like this pizza.
