Mama Mary's I

Rooster and I were promised free food and wine if we attended the opening of a new music venue on Tuesday night. The place was called S.P.A.C.E—a honeycomb of recording studios attached to an upscale pizza place. We thought we had a decent shot of eating our share of grub when we saw the finely dressed crowd mingling inside. We were wrong.

The nosh table was a mob scene. Well heeled business professionals pressed up against each other to assert their place in line, each one taking 3 and 4 pieces of brick oven pizza at a time. The pressure was too much for me. After I broke a glass trying to get my fair share, we fled into the main dining room and ordered a pizza of our own.

“Is it weird that we’re paying money for the same food we could get in the back room for free?” asked Rooster. Not as weird as the fact that we’re spending money on the same food we could get at home.
