Since spring shows no sign of hitting Chicago, Rooster and I are plotting our get-aways. There’s a town in western Illinois that does re-enactments of the Mormon Pioneer story. When I found out that the next town over has an organic bistro and a self-guide barn tour, I forked over the cash for a B&B immediately. Our favorite thing to do since moving to the Midwest is to travel to neighboring towns in search of food and small town life.Rooster is in charge of borrowing a book-on-cd for the car ride and scheduling the barn tour, but that’s it. Ever since he tried to book us into a hotel whose main selling point was that it was haunted and “had drunks running up and down and screaming in the hallways” (on-line review), I’ve taken over the travel agent side of our relationship.
