
Jay works with us two days a week, counting money and adding up columns of numbers which the financial department gives him. He does this with incredible precision. Sometimes I give him brochures to stuff into envelopes. When he finishes, he comes to me with a list of layout mishaps.
When Jay was in college he was in a car accident and suffered severe brain damage. Except when he drinks too much, which he does at big events like the Temple’s anniversary party or a co-workers wedding, he is sweet as all get out. He turned 34 yesterday and so we took him to a Mexican restaurant down the street to celebrate. He ordered a surf and turf platter called “The Guadalajara” and a margarita. We sang and he thanked us very seriously, in Hebrew.
As a Chicken, my biggest fear is that I might have a baby that comes out a bit cracked. But with Jay, I think about the fact that cracked can come in adulthood too. 15 years ago, Jay must have been brilliant.
