Semi-Homemade has recanted their New York offer. My suspicion is it is because I blogged about the recipes (the producers e-mailed me in all caps (yikes), and asked that I remove those pieces of the post-- go Google).They say the take-back was due to "industry guests" appearing on the show instead of me, a "Semi-Homemaker."I should have told them that I am not a Homemaker. I am a working woman who wishes she was a Homemaker.
Despite the embarrassment of un-telling my co-workers (vacation days were already requested and approved), I'm fine with the change-up (type it to believe it). My schizophrenic hair stylist went turbo on me last week. I have a chin length "do" dangling around my nose, and no one needs to see that on the big screen.
If the show decides to use my recipe long-distance, they'll paste a picture of me up alongside it. So while I'm not heading out to New York, I might still have a shot at being part of a juicy 1-minute segment. If this post doesn't do me in...
The Rules: Submit any non-alcoholic grapefruit recipe, such as a breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack or beverage item that utilizes at least one serving of fresh grapefruit (i.e., one-half of a Florida grapefruit) or 100 percent grapefruit juice (i.e., 8-ounces of juice) along with one (1) digital image of the recipe.
Judging Criteria: innovation/uniqueness (40%), health/nutrition aspects (30%), presentation as depicted in the photograph (20%) and ease of preparation (10%).
The Prize: One (1) Grand Prize winner will receive a one-thousand dollar cash prize ($1,000.00) (awarded as a check) and a three (3) night, four (4) day trip with one (1) guest to Palm Beach, FL for a grapefruit-inspired culinary experience with spokesperson and contest judge, “Skinny Chef” Jennifer Iserloh.
The Entry: Chicken poached in grapefruit juice and tomatillo, rolled in corn tortillas and served with grapefruit segments and avocado salsa.
The Analysis: Not innovative enough. Winning recipes re-work the featured ingredient in surprising ways. Salsa is oh so expected. But poaching in juice isn't bad...
