Real Mommies

Well no wonder the teachers looked at me like I had beets growing out of my ears when I brought her to class after a 3 day absence. The following language contains excerpts from the note that all the adults were given about BB and her communicable disease.

"We have been informed that a child in your classroom has been diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth disease. Symptoms may include a sore throat and fever...then in a day or two, your child may get sores or blisters on the hands, feet, mouth, and sometimes the buttocks...blisters may break open...consult your pediatrician if you have any other questions."

Heck yeah, I'll consult!! I called my doctor this morning in a cold panic "is my daughter really okay? Or did I miss a pussing blister?"

I have a nagging suspicion that I wasn't the only parent who was nervous. My poor babe was likely given the evil eye all evening during pick up. I suppose I would do the same thing. "BB, don't play with that diseased child!"

In summary: 2 ear infections, 1 barfing flu, 2 colds, 1 hand foot and mouth disease, and it's only month 4. I'm going to make a t-shirt that says Real Mommies Do Daycare. Then on the back I'll write "and smart mommies don't."

Just kidding. I love day care. I just hope she doesn't get the croup next.

I just found your blog and you're a kick in the pants. Maybe I'm enjoying it so much because our lives are pretty similar, day care (and the payments that are more than our morgage), hand/foot/mouth disease (been there because of day care). Just know that there are a lot of us right there with you and I still look around to try to figure out which kid gave my kid the disease, usually it's a best pal so what can you do?

Hang in there my friend. You just think it can't get worse! I'm glad you are all better. First year in day care can be rough, but look at that smile on her face when she sees all her "buds."

They try and separate slobbered-on and un-slobbered-on toys at our school and it makes me laugh because it's so clearly just for show. Those kids are all over each other. Smooching, licking, sneezing. It's super cute until the fever hits ;-). I just remind myself that she'll be the healthiest kid in kindergarten!

Aww, what an adorable picture! I'm glad she's feeling better now.

Good luck with the POM contest :)
