Contagious Bird

Does this look the face of someone with Hand, Foot and Mouth disease? Yep.

So here's the deal with day care's sick policy: if your kid has a gross disease, they send a note around saying "a child in your class has croup/bronchitis/etc." Last week when we got the croup note, I went all Nancy Drew trying to figure out who the kid was. "We can't tell you that," said the day care teachers. And look how awful I am, I wasn't even abashed. "I think it's X," I said.

Enter karma.

Today after a two hour trip to the doctor, I called day care and 'fessed up to BB's nastily named illness. Pasted below is a text stream that occurred with my New Mommy Pal (NMP) after the fact. Backstory on NMP-- she was not the one I was originally stalking way back when, but she was the one whose phone number we got at the birthday party over Labor Day. We went to the zoo last week and her mommy-philosophy is shockingly close to mine. Plus, she loves Harry Potter (bonus!).

Hand, Foot and Mouth Text Saga

NMP: Is cute little BB ok?

Chicken: She's ill'en! Poor babe. How's your QT?

NMP: So sorry! We got a note about it. We were worried about her. Is there anything we can do to help u?

Chicken to Rooster (with actual speak out loud words): "Oh my god, day care tattled on us!"

Chicken text to NMP: It's actually not that bad-- cold w/ a fever. Just a nasty name, yikes! That tummy bug last month was 20x worse than this.

(Bad Chicken confession, NMP's daughter had the flu bug just before BB caught it, although she did NOT originate the illness)

NMP: Glad to hear it. Name sounds very scary and nasty. Keep us informed and call or txt if u need support, sympathy or anything.

Chicken to Rooster: "I can't believe day care sold us up the creek."

Rooster: "Maybe she just guessed?"

Chicken: "You think?"

Rooster: "I wouldn't worry about it."

Long pause.

Chicken: "I'm worrying."

Rooster: "Shocker."

Chicken text to NMP: Thx! Did they mention BB by name in the note? I feel so guilty!

(read: horrified)

NMP: No they were adamant about confidentiality. But, I always say hi to her, saw she wasn't there and wanted to make sure that QT was ok.

Awww...now I feel REALLY bad for my flu comment. Hey Rooster, you better like this lady's husband, because she is showing serious promise as a keeper.
