You want to see a truly happening wedding? Forget the ones populated by smooth skinned 20-somethings or young 30’s with flowers in their hair. A truly joyous wedding is one where the bride is in her mid 40’s, the groom a decade older, and both are tying the knot for the first time. I was a bridesmaid last weekend in my cousin’s Grand Affair and the vibe among the guests was pure ecstasy. Mothers were sobbing. Friends too. Those two kissed a lot of frogs before they found their royalty. And they intended to celebrate. It was quite a party. Those of us wearing the brown strapless bridesmaids dresses (with train) started our beauty prep at 9 in the morning. The other girls were all 15-years older than me, but they were HOT. Their killer bods forced me into a corset-like contraption and by 5:30 p.m. when the bridal party left the ceremony to take photos outside in the muggy heat, I blacked out so fast I inadvertently stole the attention from the bride.
The party may have been a blow-out, but by 10 p.m. I was ready to pass out. So I said my goodbyes to my cousin, thinking I was making a graceful exit. But there was no grace there. The bridal couple had reserved the bottom level of the hotel, hired a live Blues Band and the agenda was dancing until 2 a.m. A good bridesmaid would stay for such things. A good bridesmaid would say “I’m not tired!” even if she was nodding off in between hip-hop songs. But this bridesmaid turned purple and fled.
