The doctors tell you to count kicks to make sure your baby is still alive. That's ten kicks in one hour. Nine is NOT okay.
So last night I'm counting kicks and 15 minutes go by with NOTHING. "Oh my god she's dead," I say to Rooster. "She is not dead," Rooster says. Mild panic sets in.
This is a lie. Major panic sets in.
Rooster-- calm, collected Rooster-- ducks down to belly level. "Hello little one," he says. "Your mommy is freaking out. But I know you're in there. You just take after mommy, don't you my little couch potato."
Kick.
"You want a song?" he asks.
Kick Kick.
And then he starts to sing and that baby just goes nutso. Absolutely wild, pushing and kicking and rejoicing in general. Rooster's only song is rock-a-bye-baby and it isn't done entirely on key, but boy does our little one adore her papa's voice.

Parenthood. I can't wait for the adventure...
