Cheesecake Factory

I’m ready to start dating. No, there’s nothing wrong with Rooster. I’m keeping him. The person I have my eye on is of the female, newly-mommied persuasion. When I scoped the scene at my new mom’s group, she was the only one wearing sweat pants and a Dartmouth sweatshirt. I respect a woman who wears a sweat-suit in public. Plus, she came without her baby, an act that shows a certain I-Need-Adult-Contact desperation that I can relate to.

If I was to analyze our interaction, I’d say I came on too strong—it’s sort of my M.O. Once, a gay boy at a Temple event told me that when he first met me he thought I was manic, but then realized I was just overly friendly.

At the mom’s group I sat next to “Dartmouth.” After my first round of machine-gun fired questions, I calmed down a little and we had a decent conversation. She even watched Baby Bird while I ran back to the car for my forgotten diaper bag. When the two hours of mommy time was over, she waited for me and we left together.

As we walked out I was like, oh my god, what should I do next? Should I ask for her phone number? Or is it too soon? What if she was just being polite by reminding me to pre-pay for my parking? Then, bidding goodbye in the parking lot, she looked me straight in the eye and said, “See you next week.” Next week! We have a date!

By next month we could be sharing cheesecake…
