Gingerbread Pear Muffins (Organic Contest)

I’ve dubbed this several-degrees-below Chicago season the Winter of Butter. As in, how many pounds of butter can one woman buy at Costco in one three month period and how fast can she make it disappear? Pregnancy has woken my baking genes and they don’t tolerate low-fat substitutes.

At first I played with chocolate. For Thanksgiving, canned pumpkin. But at Christmas, even nice Jewish girls get bitten by the gingerbread bug. Taking advantage of my sister-in-law’s Chanukah gift-- fruit of the month club (yee-haw!)-- I composed some gingerbread pear muffins inspired by this recipe from epicurious

All was going well until I opened the oven door to check on the progress of my spicy little babies, and the oven handle popped off. Guess that’s one way to curb the baking spree.
