Betty Crocker

This morning my television newscaster solemnly revealed that a fifteen-year-old boy kissed his fifteen-year-old girlfriend and killed her. It wasn’t a violent kiss, there were no razor sharp teeth involved. What there was was a peanut butter sandwich. After eating one, the boy moved in for a smooch and with residual peanut butter clinging to his tongue, sent his first love into anaphylactic shock. How about living with that for the rest of your life. You’d probably never eat peanut butter again, let alone cook with it.

The Entry: (Rooster's) Thanksgiving Apple Pie Cookies

1 pouch Betty Crocker® sugar cookie mix
½ teaspoon cinnamon
6 tablespoons butter, melted
2 tablespoons Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
1 egg
1 large granny smith apple
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 1/4 cups Betty Crocker® Whipped fluffy white frosting
Betty Crocker® orange and red decorating sugars

1. Heat oven to 375°F. In medium bowl, stir sugar cookie mix, cinnamon, melted butter, flour and egg until soft dough forms. Roll dough on floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut circles out of dough using standard 3-inch biscuit cutter.

2. Peel, core and grate the granny smith apple. Squeeze excess liquid from shredded apple and place in a small bowl. Mix brown sugar with the apple. Mound a sparse teaspoon of shredded apple on one side of each cookie round. Fold the cookie dough gently over the shredded apple forming a half-circle with the shredded apple in the center. Press cookie dough edges together to seal closed. Place cookies one-inch apart on a greased standard-sized cookie sheet.

3. Bake cookies 9 minutes or until light golden brown at the edges. Cool 3 minutes before removing from cookie sheet. Cool completely on cooling rack. Spread frosting on cooled cookies. Decorate with orange and red decorating sugar
