Well, it finally happened. I had a complete break-down yesterday. Holding the baby and crying like the world was spiraling into hell. She just wouldn't sleep. The amazing, alert baby. How do you entertain an 8-week old? There are only so many times one can walk the hallway; only so many hours one can nurse; only so many New Yorker articles one can read aloud; only so many tearless-wails one can dance through-- before that cute little baby begins to grow horns.
Anyway, I called our friend DB. He is a writer and works from home. No matter that it his girlfriend, Michelle, who likes to hold the baby. No matter that until recently he spent his free time at a late night club in a mysterious "back room" where VIPs hang out. He is our best friend in this city and he is the only one besides Rooster who I can call in snotty tears.
He came over immediately. I passed him the baby, pointed to a bottle, and went to bed. I woke up to find a little angel, chillin' in DB's arms. "She slept," he said. And my first thought was "Baby Bird, you traitor." She looked back, spearing me with her eyes, like: "I get sick of you too, you know."
