Chocolate Adventures

I’m ready to run away with Rooster to Hawaii . More specifically, I’m ready to run away with Rooster to a vacation home in Hawaii where Dad runs around making sure that everyone has enough Diet Pepsi and clean towels and where Mom mediates sisterly squabbles. (“Don’t get upset about what she’s not doing, tell her what it is that you want”).

Being around my family this past vacation made me wish for shtetl times, when families live together and fight and make up and laugh and nothing really sticks. So many other parts of my life involve interpersonal relationships where Damage Can Be Done. At work, miscommunication leads to hurt feelings and feuds that don’t die. Sometimes friends drift or fall away because it’s been too long and guilt makes it hard to initiate a reconnect.

Family is an 'always' sort of place. I think that my biggest problem in life is that I expect everyone to behave as unconditionally as family.
Luckily I found an unconditional Rooster. He just waltzed out of a week's vacation in a house with the Chicken's nuclear fam with a big old smile and only one "Chernobyl style" (as he dubbed it) meltdown. If that's not non-stick, than I don't know what is. Except maybe this cake.
