We've got a date. It's this couple we picked up at JJ's first birthday party. The one we attended with our socks. It started out pretty innocently. They were sitting in a circle singing "wheels on the bus" with their little daughter who I know as the-baby-who-finger-paints-with-spit-up at Day Care. Rooster and I squeezed in next to them and I greeted their daughter, who knows me as that-mommy-who-is-always-chasing-me-with-baby-wipes. Parents shook hands. Babies ignored each other. The tension was ON.
By the time Happy Birthday JJ had kicked in, the new Mommy and I had totally bonded. She confessed that they had attended the party to meet friends. "Us too!" I shrieked. Giddiness ensued. And then I got their phone number. Well, first they asked us if we wanted to join them at a BBQ the next day-- but that was a little much a little fast.
I like to play it cool when it comes to new friends. You never want to look desperate and scare them off. So I waited a couple days and then sent the new Mommy an email. After a little light banter, we scheduled a date to hang out the first weekend in October. At the Zoo. Where we quite possibly will eat whole grains.
